Just in case you all were on the edge of your seats wondering, wanting to know, biting your fingernails in anticipation... the fruitflies are gone! Success! Hooray for... ahem... Ms. Anonymous.
Don't know what I'm talking about? You can find anything on the Internet.

Hey so what method did you end up using?
Curious in Cypress - Texas that is.
Actually, it really wasn't me, hee hee... But here's an update from her:
FRUIT FLY REPORT:
OK, here’s the follow-up. The fruit flies loved the red wine, the cider vinegar, and the old banana. Some of the methods involved trapping the fruit flies and killing them later; that seems like a waste of time and effort.
The easiest effective method is to pour some cider vinegar into a cup, add just a bit of liquid soap, and stir it in. The soap breaks the surface tension so the flies get stuck and drown instead of feasting and flying away. I like to use a clear plastic cup because then I can check the dead fly count as the hours go by.
